Taking a historic decision, the Uttar Pradesh government has made a new announcement for Agniveer. In the cabinet meeting led by CM Yogi Adityanath, a proposal for 20% reservation for ex-agniveer in police and PAC recruitment was passed. Along with this, they will also get age relaxation. This initiative will be a major boost for ex-agniveer.
Decision of Cabinet Meeting
This proposal was passed unanimously in a meeting chaired by CM Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday morning. Cabinet Minister Suresh Khanna, while confirming this decision, said that this proposal was forwarded by the Home Department. This step will pave the way for a stable career to ex-servicemen and will include trained candidates in the security forces.
About Agniveer Scheme
Agniveer scheme was started by the central government in 2022. Youths are recruited as Agniveers in the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force for 4 years. 6 months training is given and on the basis of performance 25% Agniveers are made permanent, the remaining 75% are given the option to explore other opportunities.
What did the Agniveer get in Uttar Pradesh?

Benefits for Agniveers
This rule will benefit after the first batch of Agniveer retire in 2026-27. At present, out of 1 lakh Agniveer, almost 25,000 will be in permanent roles and the rest will have opportunities like this.

CM Adityanath had promised in 2022 that those Agniveers who will return after their service will get priority in UP Police and PAC recruitments. Through this policy, this promise has now been fulfilled.
